Introducing my new creation!  The 'MOSTEDI' (mo-sted-i or most-stedi), short for mobile steady cam mount. 

I recently picked up the new Galaxy S2 LTE, upgrading from my old BlackBerry 9000, and have been playing around with all the cool new features. 

When I tried the video, I found that the quality from the 8MP sensor shooting at 1920x1080 was great, but it was very hard to hold steady.  So to satisfy my brains curiosity I started looking up mobile steady cam units and saw a few like the Tiffen Steadicam Smoothee and the ReadySteady.

After searching and much pondering I said to myself, self.. just build your own! It was Sunday afternoon and stores were not going to be open for long and I figured I could put enough of my junk together to make one :)  The only part I was missing was a nice ball joint that the unit could freely float on.  So after searching high and low I found a compressed air swivel joint at Canadian Tire, and I was ready to put this thing together.

After an hour or so I had whipped up the creation you see in the pictures from a car phone holder, compressed air fitting for the handle, a piece of flat aluminum for the counter balance weights and a small block of hardwood to tie it all together.

It's a little dark out now so the video I took isn't that great, but when I get a chance I will take some video so you can see how well it actually works.

I think for a few bucks it works great, and I don't think it looks all that bad.
